Visit the new museum for London's abandoned children, The Foundling Hospital Museum. It stands near the site of the Foundling Hospital, established in 1739, which looked after more than 27,000 deserted children until it closure in 1953. As well as an extensive art collection, the new museum houses simple mementoes left by mothers with their infants as a means of identification; the lottery system used to select or reject infants for care; children's uniforms and the medals presented to them on completion of their education. Chocolate and Beer Tasting at the Great British Beer Festival, Olympia (5 August, 7.30pm). Chocolate and beer have long been produced in England but are not usually consumed at the same time. A special tasting at the country's major beer festival, run by the Campaign for Real Ale and hosted by American beer writer Fred Eckhardt, will prove that they need not be strangers to one another. Beers will be sourced from the 700 available at the festival. Go to www.gbbf.org.
